Motion analysis applied to ergonomics field

On the basis of the experience acquired in the medical field, NCS Lab presents COGITO ERGONOMICS, the innovative platform for motion analysis applied to ergonomics field.

The platform SHoW Motion couples inertial sensors with EMG signals and adopts validated biomedical protocols. Thanks to this combination it measures and registers rotatory motions and muscular activity in real-time.
Thanks to a special software, the system recognises anomalies and highlights compensatory strategies.
SHoW Motion technology applied to ergonomics field uses wearable sensors in order to optimize products and processes of production and also for the design of the working environment in a more suitable way for workers and final users.

The ergonomics of product pays attention to the usability described in relation to the easiness of learning to use the system, efficiency and how easy and satisfying is the programme for the user.

COGITO ERGONOMICS allows the ergonomic evaluation of the user according to product’s characteristics.
Thanks to NCS Lab experience gained in automotive and racing fields, this project can be integrated with the design of the driver zone.
The driver’s slot must be studied in a way in which articular stress is reduced and driver’s comfort is increased. For example, it may be possible for the driver to adjust the seat’s height or the arm’s height or the height of the wheel.

The real-time evaluation of articular kinematics in the working environment may screen postures that user takes, differentiating them between right ones and wrong ones (healthy and pathological). The ergonomic analysis identifies working tasks’ critical points and intervenes in order to reduce accidents and increase the worker’s wealth. At the same time, it improves business productivity reducing working inefficiencies, for example monitoring causes of the most common diseases contracted at work or reporting false accidents.

COGITO ERGONOMICS is compatible with principal ergonomic indicators: RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment), REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) and the CHECKLIST OCRA (Occupational Repetitive Action). With reference to UNI EN 1005 and ISO 11228, the system allows the ergonomic evaluation in the supply chain in the moment of interaction with machines, analysing potential accidents and trunk, shoulder, elbow and wrist compensation. From the 3D analysis of upper and lower limb is possible to study the disparity between right and left limb.

In the office the wrong posture and the subsequent occurrence of painful symptoms are due to fixed positions for a long time. Among the main causes is possible to identify the wrong choice and arrangement of furniture, the wrong posture of the worker, fast hands movements e the use of the mouse for a long time.
