NCS is happy to present you DOSE: the hypercar prototype born from the Fabio Ferrante’s community of design
DOSE, Design Open Source Experiment, is an online scouting community for young designers willing to work in group projects which will pave the way for bigger projects.
The founder of DOSE, Fabio Ferrante commissioned NCS to prototype the DOSE Elytron, the project conceived by the community.
Who is Fabio Ferrante?
Fabio Ferrante is an Italian designer formed in Turin where he started working as Product Designer in 2003. In 2010, after working with high profile brands such as FCA Group, Alfa Romeo and Volkswagen group, he became Chief Designer of Puritalia Automobili, a new Italian automotive company that produces limited edition sports cars.
In 2013 Ferrante moved to New York, where he works with several clients on different Product Design projects.
After winning the 5 International Design Awards Ferrante launched DOSE in 2017.
What is DOSE?
DOSE - Design Open Source Experiment - is an online community where all members can be part of virtual design teams and create transportation design projects from first sketch to prototype. DOSE offers participants the opportunity to broaden their portfolio by sharing ideas and cooperating with a team to bring an idea to a prototype.
Ferrante launches a car design project with the respective guidelines to the community and all members are invited to participate and compete in order to be on a select team.
In each creative area a contest is announced and at the end, the winning idea is evaluated by Fabio Ferrante. The selected team is then supervised by Fabio Ferrante during the development process.
DOSE Elytron
DOSE Elytron is the name of the car design project born from the DOSE community and manufactured through the collaboration of Ferrante and NCS.
The DOSE Elytron is a concept of an electric hypercar. Concept cars such as Pininfarina Modulo, Cadillac Cyclone or the Norman Timbs Special, had an important influence on this project.
NCS & DOSE
The NCS/Ferrante collaboration is a result of a long standing business relationship (and friendship) between Fabio Ferrante and Marcello Fantuzzi, Technical Director & President of NCS | Newcast.
In October of 2018, Ferrante sent NCS Proto and Style team the specifications of
the project and a model of the Elytron. The team reverse engineered and quickly built and assembled a 1:5 scale prototype. The NCS team worked in record time to complete the project while sharing their progress with Ferrante who in turn posted these updates with his followers on Instagram.
Success
The project’s success came about as a result of the NCS team paying close attention to detail while perfecting every single component of the DOSE Elytron design.
Components are made in selective laser sintering (SLS PA12). The rear extractor is made of carbon fiber as the front splitter, headlights are in watershed, a transparent material similar to real headlights and, last but not least, wheels are made of aluminium.
The most interesting part of the prototype and in great detail are the wheels. Wheels are detached from the body of the prototype and held together thanks to a small dice in the middle. The Proto & Style team also created a key to mount and dismount the wheel.
When all pieces were assembled the Elytron was coated and the 21st of December 2018 the prototype was released.
The DOSE Elytron was very popular and successful on social media as a result of Ferrante’s satisfaction with the final results. NCS is proud of having been a part of this project and in the successful completion of this design masterpiece.

DOSE, acronimo di Design Open Source Experiment, è una community di scouting online per i designer volenterosi di cimentarsi in progetti di gruppo che porteranno a collaborazioni con grandi marchi.
Il fondatore, Fabio Ferrante ha commissionato a NCS il prototipo di DOSE Elytron, il progetto di hypercar nato dalla community.
Chi è Fabio Ferrante?
Fabio Ferrante è un designer italiano formatosi a Torino dove ha iniziato a lavorare come Product Designer nel 2003.
Dopo una serie di collaborazioni importanti con marchi prestigiosi come FCA, Alfa Romeo e Volkswagen, nel 2010 diventa Chief Designer di Puritalia Automobili, un’azienda che produce macchine sportive in edizione limitata.
Nel 2013 Ferrante si trasferisce a New York, dove lavora tuttora con numerosi clienti per svariati progetti di Product Design.
Vincitore di 5 International Design Awards, Ferrante nel 2017 avvia il progetto DOSE.
Cos’è DOSE?
DOSE - Design Open Source Experiment, è una community online nella quale i membri hanno la possibilità di formare dei veri e propri team di design virtuali e creare progetti di car design dai primi schizzi fino alla realizzazione di veri prototipi. DOSE offre ai membri della community l’opportunità di ampliare il proprio portfolio collaborando e condividendo idee e progetti che portano alla realizzazione di un vero e proprio prototipo finale.
Ferrante lancia alla community un progetto di car design con le relative linee guida e tutti i membri sono invitati a partecipare a far parte del selected team.
In ciascun settore creativo viene indetto un contest per selezionare l’idea vincente: l’ultima parola è quella di Fabio Ferrante che, una volta selezionate le idee vincitrici, crea il selected team e lo supervisiona durante tutto il processo di creazione.
DOSE Elytron
DOSE Elytron è il progetto nato dalla community e realizzato grazie alla collaborazione tra Ferrante e NCS.
DOSE Elytron è una hypercar elettrica ispirata a grandi concept cars come la Pininfarina Modulo, la Cadillac Cyclone o la Norman Timbs Special.
NCS e DOSE
La collaborazione con NCS nasce dalla conoscenza di Fabio Ferrante e Marcello Fantuzzi, Technical Director & President di NCS | Newcast.
Agli inizi di ottobre 2018 Ferrante commissiona a NCS il prototipo della Elytron e il team Proto & Style riceve le prime matematiche in dimensioni reali (5 metri di lunghezza), le quali vengono utilizzate per scomporre e ricostruire il progetto in scala 1:5.
Un mese dopo i primi particolari sono già pronti, il team tiene aggiornato Ferrante con report fotografici fase dopo fase e lui, entusiasta dei risultati, pubblica i progressi sui suoi social così da condividerli con la sua community.
Realizzazione
La realizzazione del progetto è portata avanti dal team di NCS con la massima attenzione ai dettagli per valorizzare ogni singolo particolare di DOSE Elytron.
I componenti sono realizzati in sinterizzato plastico (SLS PA12), l’estrattore posteriore è in carbonio così come lo splitter anteriore, i fari sono in watershed, un materiale trasparente molto simile al reale e infine i cerchi sono realizzati in alluminio.
La ruota è un pezzo del prototipo particolarmente interessante: è scomposta dal corpo e tenuta assemblata da un dadino al centro, il team proto & style ha ideato un una chiave per montare e smontare la ruota.
Assemblati tutti i pezzi il team è passato alle fasi di verniciatura e montaggio degli interni e il 21 Dicembre 2018 il progetto è stato concluso e il modellino è stato esposto.
La DOSE Elytron ha riscosso un enorme successo sui social e la soddisfazione di Ferrante è il più grande risultato, NCS è orgogliosa di aver seguito dall’inizio alla fine la nascita di questo capolavoro.

NCS supports STRETTO IN CARENA, the team of the University of Messina at the MOTOSTUDENT 2020
After the collaboration which brought SCIGHERA, the motorcycle designed by the PoliMi Motorcycle Factory, to win the MOTOSTUDENT championship, NCS | Newcast Services is ready to collaborate with another team of students. This team is from the University of Messina and it is called STRETTO IN CARENA, a young and determined team which will participate to the championship in the Petrol category with a petrol engine.
For the first time students will participate to the 6th edition of the MOTOSTUDENT international championship that will take place in Aragon in 2020.
MOTOSTUDENT is a four-day competition which calls to Aragon, Spain, students from universities from all over the world for a real race in which they have the chance to demonstrate their competences starting from the design of a project up to the creation of a prototype.
Marcello Fantuzzi, Techinical Director & President of NCS met the team at the Feltrinelli of Messina and has formalised the collaboration:
“I have the capability to lead you to Aragon. I am here to invest in your future because your future will be my profit and if you believe in what you are doing it will be so.”
The committment of NCS is to help students during the process of design and provide all the materials and means of production they need.
Fantuzzi also encouraged and provided valuable advice on the topic:
“The challenge is to sacrifice yourself and strive for an objective. Your team is very good one but the motorcycle is only one and it must be the best.”

“You don’t have the requirements to go to Aragon, but you accepted the challenge anyway. This is what I saw in you. We will not go there to win but we will go there to join and win for ourselves.”
NCS is ready to collaborate and support the ideas of STRETTO IN CARENA, a team formed by 70 students at their very first experience but with a huge will of put themselves to the test with the big ones.

NCS supporta il team STRETTO IN CARENA dell’Università di Messina al Motostudent 2020
Dopo la collaborazione che ha portato SCIGHERA, la moto progettata dal Polimi Motorcycle Factory, a vincere il campionato MOTOSTUDENT, NCS | Newcast Services è pronta a collaborare con un nuovo team: i ragazzi di STRETTO IN CARENA dell’Università di Messina che parteciperà alla competizione nella categoria Petrol con un motore a benzina.
Gli studenti debutteranno nella VI edizione della competizione internazionale di MOTOSTUDENT nel 2020.
MOTOSTUDENT è una quattro giorni che chiama ad Aragòn, Spagna, i ragazzi delle università di tutto il mondo per un vero e proprio campionato nel quale hanno la possibilità di dimostrare le loro competenze partendo dalla progettazione fino alla realizzazione di un prototipo.
Marcello Fantuzzi, Technical Director & President di NCS ha incontrato alla Feltrinelli di Messina i ragazzi del team e ha ufficializzato la collaborazione nel corso della serata:
“Io credo di avere la struttura che vi porterà ad Aragón. Sono qua per investire sul vostro futuro, perché proprio il vostro futuro sarà il mio guadagno e solo se crederete veramente in ciò che fate sarà così”.
L’impegno da parte di NCS è quello di aiutare i ragazzi nel corso della progettazione e di fornirgli i materiali e i mezzi di produzione a loro necessari.
Nel corso della serata Fantuzzi ha incoraggiato e fornito particolari consigli agli studenti:
“La sfida consiste nel sacrificarsi e lottare per il raggiungimento di un obiettivo. Siete un ottimo team di progettazione, ma la moto è una sola e deve essere la migliore.”
e ancora
“Non avete i requisiti per andare ad Aragón, ma avete accettato la sfida. Questo ho visto in voi. E non è poco. Non andremo lì per vincere, andremo lì a partecipare e vincere per noi stessi.”
NCS è pronta a collaborare e a dar forma alle idee di STRETTO IN CARENA, un team di 70 ragazzi alle prime armi ma con tanta voglia di mettersi in gioco e di misurarsi con le più grandi.
